Oh Chumly where are you.
I need a vehicle. My old one was totaled by a young male with little driving experience and poor road manners.
I would like something that fits this criteria;
- Room for 4 passengers
- Towing capacity 1500lbs minimum
- Reasonable fuel mileage
My preference is to spend no more than $6500 on the vehicle. I am not against hi mileage used vehicles if there is some good history.
I try to avoid vehicles with known problems... and I spent too much time on the internet looking up that information.
Something like a Jeep Grand Cherokee would be alright, but I read that they need brakes about every 20,000km's which doesn't sound good.
I'm too Scottish to own a GMC Silverado or other full sized vehicle, I do not like the idea of blowing more money on fuel.. and with it heading to $2.00/l in the not so far future, I like the idea of it "sipping" fuel rather than guzzling it.
I need the towing capacity to haul a small trailer, and two dirtbikes. My trailer is 700lbs, so with two bikes on it, well over 1000lb of most cars. Overloading your vehicle and having an accident can cause you to have some major headaches I do not wish for.
I'm looking for suggestions of good vehicles... I think a 2002 or so CRV would be good, as it fits the criteria - but not many are available.
What ideas do you guys have? Mazda Tribute / Ford Escape - known auto tranny problems. Same for Rav4, apparently one of the worst transmissions ever put in a vehicle.
What else meets my tow requirements?
GMC Safari van seems like it would be good... but the 4.3L motor is a bit of a pig.
How cheap am I? I only commute 18km round trip per day. But I do not like paying $200 in fuel to go ride my dirtbike on the weekends. That is for suckers.
