Sorry I have to agree with the officer.. They have been warned many times that this is not acceptable.
After you are the person hitting one of these guys racing down a subdivision. If these guys want to do this find a
mountain road without houses around so its not a bother to others.
The hierarchy of bad decisions here seems to be crowned by the cops' dick-move.
"I dread beyond all else the growth of the petty tyranny of restrictive legislation, the transference of disciplinary authority from the judiciary to the constabulary, the abandonment of every constitutional safeguard of individual liberty."
Longboarding on open roads is not very smart. The cop one-upped them on that. Did he even think to consider what it would be like for EMTs to be extracting a guy from his windshield?
Both sides are stupid. The cop doesn't have the right to "endanger" their lives to stop them and the longboarders don't have the right to be on public roads.
Numerous times i've had longboarders scatter as I climb a hill on my commute home.. it's pretty stupid.
Some people are like Slinkies ...
Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I am adding longboarders and the West Van Police to my boycott list.
Fill the house with bees.
Even though what they were doing is illegal, and have received warnings, the cop was way out of line and I hope receives discipline for his actions. In no way and I condoning the boarders either though.
If you were speeding on your bike, which is also illegal, and you may have even received warnings about, would be cop throw his SUV in the your path? I think not.
I like my women like I like my scotch. Aged 18 years and mixed up with coke.
I love how the guy with grey hair says the cop should have better things to do than run "kids" off the road with his vehicle. It's time to put on on your big boy pants, act your age, and accept responsibility that shooting down a hill on a device with no brakes will eventually end poorly.
Also, how does one actually stop longboarders? I mean, yeah the cop probably shouldn't have literally run them off the road because there's some real danger there, but I imagine it'd be like trying to stop a motorcycle with no brakes.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
those streets at the top of westvan have little to no traffic at any time of the day. the main traffic is coming off Taylorway and they all disperse. Up where they were, its all new construction. Not a big deal. The cop didnt cut them off, he flashed his lights, and block the intersection, they could have went wide to the right and up the hill to stop. Pointless video.

Lol "Cut off". If those guys had a hard time maneuvering around that SUV, they should rethink where they're practicing.
Right after they build a proper MC track in the lower mainland they need to build a dedicated long board run on the shore.

Both sides are pathetic. The aging funboys on the longboards and the West Van cop driving around in an unmarked luxury SUV with nothing better to do than ticket said boarders. Why is it in NA speeding is grounds for cops to endanger said speeder and everyone else around them to hand out a ticket? Fucking bizarre. You were speeding so I thought I might try and kill you.
I'm not a cop defender at all. Despise they way they act 1/2 the time. But the cop was 100% in the right here. His truck was stopped 300yrds down the road, with his lights on, as they came around the corner. 300 yards is, most of the time, TONS OF ROOM to stop for a legal vehicle. And isn't it customary to stop when an emergency vehicle has his lights on? Like give way? Pull over? Stop? A long board skateboard doesn't have brakes does it? Stupid skateboard fuckers are lucky he stopped them, easily they could have gotten flattened by the Merc SUV behind him. Get a life, skateboards are for snotty nosed kids, not grown grey haired men.
First world problems ... ??
I define Hell as having to ride back and forth from Blaine to Tijuana on I - 5 in perpetuity.
I don't skateboard/longboard and I would think that the only things that could put those guys in the wrong legally is either a city bylaw or something in the MVA to do with them not having a safe vehicle. It might be defensible to cite the possibility of immenent risk to other road users but does the strong possibility of wearing one of them as a hood ornament really justified by that risk?
I'm glad I'm in a different profession and never have to make judgement calls like that. For those who think the cop is clear in the right, what about the argument of imminent danger to the public often sighted for speeding or racing claims? Might it seem excessive if all of a sudden an SUV swerves into your lane and cuts you off on your bike for a 40 over in Lions Bay? I think that's a divided highway but other places could fit that judgement call when you read the media releases about busted speeders.
