Hey y'all, well here goes nothing! lets hope someone can help me with this one.
at season's end I encountered some issues with my oem clutch and I figured I should upgrade the lot to make sure its all good going forward.
I replaced my clutch assembly with a YOYODYNE SLIPPER CLUTCH, EBC SRK street performance 'pack' kit (came with new EBC clutch springs).
Since i was doing the work myself I decided to re-invest some saved labor $ and also purchased a HINSON RACING BILLET BASKET...
of course in order to replace the basket we drilled through the rivet heads to separate the basket from the clutch gear itself.
the rest of the process went smooth as expected and I did one full day ride with said configuration.. now for the interesting bit.
I completely forgot to use loctite on the new hinson basket bolts (circled in black below) prior to rebuild so as riding season approaches I pulled it all apart in order
to go over the whole thing and use a little loctite where needed... no big deal..
okay, so when i went for a ride at season's end i noticed increased rattling noise coming from the clutch, specially at idle, but it would quiet down drastically
when I pull the clutch lever in... hmmmm.... further inspection with the clutch basket out of the bike showed that the HINSON basket hub damping springs
in the back (circled in red below) dont actually sit flush in their respective slots, ONLY ONE of them sits perfectly flush on both ends and tight,
the other 5 are kinda loose and do rattle back and forth easily... no likey!!
I decided to call up Brocks Performance and I was told this was 'normal' and as long as one of them was tight it should be okay, but they do wear out eventually like anything else... so of course i decided to call HINSON RACING down in Cali themselves... the tech there deals with DIRT bike CLUTCHES all the time so he was not certain they had something available for my STREET BIKE (09 R1) BUT he did believe that if they are rattling around then that is definitely the source of the noise i'm hearing and should probably be replaced to prevent any future issues.... easier said than done right!?
QUESTION!! where / who can i contact in order to find replacements for these 6 springs? they are all the same tension as they all have the same white paint on 'em..
IF anybody knows anything regarding these suckers help would be greatly appreciated, seen as I have the parts out now is the time to ensure its all good to go for the season!!
THANKS for any comments / suggestions!!
