Recently, I started to add up how much I have spent on gear in the 20 years I have been riding. I didn't get very far before realizing that it was a bad idea. I recommend to all experienced riders never to go there.
I have frequently said "If I had only known an experienced rider that has turned over as many sets of suits, helmets, gloves, boots, mid layers, rain gear, luggage, Tech (communications, radar detector setups etc) as I have turned over socks, I could have saved myself a lot of time and money"
Yeah, I know what you are saying "But I didn't know I was going to like riding a sport bike as much as I did, so I eased into buying gear and just started with a Joe Rocket ballistic jacket and some Daytons"
To the experienced riders here, what would you recommend for a complete "Kit" for a new rider with a blank check? Less emphasis on brands and more emphasis on the "Type" of gear. What's your best advice? Give us an idea what this kit would cost too.
To the new rider, the pricing may seem stratospheric, but if you have a strong feeling you are going to love this sport and would rather make the investment now, and avoid having to re-buy and upgrade your gear every year or two, the recommendations here may very well save you a lot of time, money, and frustration over the long term.
