This past May long weekend 2014 some friends and I rode to Pendleton, OR from Surrey, BC. We spent two days exploring the back roads south of Pendleton, riding around the John Day area. You may recall recently I acquired a 2013 ZX6R. This was my first long distance ride on the new bike and I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was to ride long distance! On the return ride home I covered a distance of 900+ KM.
Below I have included links of our route to Pendleton, the routes for the day rides in the area, and the return route home.
I had to work on Thursday May 15, 2014, and left immediately after, getting as far as Bellevue, WA.
On Friday May 16, 2014 we took some major, and several minor roads on our ride to Pendleton, OR.
On Saturday May 17, & Sunday May 18, 2014 we explored the roads south of Pendleton.
On Saturday we got into Sumpter, OR and planned to ride back to Pendleton, via the NF-73 road NW of Sumpter, only to discover it was closed due to snow. This was the reason for riding to Baker City and beyond on I-84 back to Pendleton.
For Sunday's ride we road out and explored the area South and South West of Pendleton, OR with no specific route in mind.
Monday, May 19, 2014 we took the scenic route home, passing through Banks Lake in WA, Grand Coulee Dam, Twisp and Winthrop.
