Welp, things are getting warm in my apartment.
I honestly think the unit below (separated by concrete) is running a grow op, I mean seriously, wtf is up with the floor being warm 24/7/4/12.
The effect of this is that my apartment get hot even though it's pretty shielded from the sun almost the entire day.
What I did last year was take my old window mounted AC unit and plopped it on my balcony door and fabricated a huuuuugeee mother fucking shield out of white corrugated plastic to go on top of it (window ac users will know what i mean). Why? every window I have is one of those crank and tilts, making the balcony sliding door the only one I can put an AC on (facilitated by the as mentioned fucking huge piece of white plastic).
Things were cool. Even though my AC unit was a dinky $150 5000 BTU Haier, the apartment was always nice and cool (even though I was wringing everything out of it).
Motivated by 1.) I can barely go out to the balcony because the left over opening is tiny 2.) the huge plastic I've installed is easy to break in, just need to push it over, and all of the 2nd floor has access to my balcony and vice versa 3.) more cooling is always nicer
I'm looking for a portable AC unit to buy that has a higher BTU rating but MOST IMPORTANTLY, has a dual Intake and Exhaust hose system.
In plan on rigging up a corrugated plastic shield (like with my window unit) with the two hoses hooked up to them that will lead outside.
My problem: So far, every portable AC unit that I've done research on (and that's available at a retail place in Vancouver) does not have an intake hose OR does not exclusively intake air from the outside. I understand that most portable ac units are single hose only, but there EXISTS dual intake/exhuast models out there, and I want one.
To further compound the problem, units like this http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...cb18a676a1en02 while advertised as "dual hose" is actually either a dual exhaust, or the unit still sucks in the already chilled indoor air and expels it outside.
Question presented to BCSB: Do any of you know of any portable AC units I can buy in Vancouver that have an intake hose and an exhaust hose.
Alternatively, aside from Futureshop, Costco, Sears, are there smaller shops with knowledgable AC sales I can call up?
