Let's cut through all the BS and just fund cancer research through increased taxes and save everyone a whole bunch of time and money! After all, cancer research is already (indirectly) funded by taxes. How much of the money raised by high profile fund raising initiatives like the Ride to Conquer Cancer actually adds to the cause?
If I donate $100 to a tax deductible cause, I'm going to claim it against my personal income taxes. That will net a tax refund of $50.00. So your taxes are already paying for half the initial donation. What about the other $50.00? Ride organizers have lots of overhead with all the print, radio and TV advertising, not to mention tents, staff, transportation, road closures, food costs, etc. At the end of the day, would it not be more efficient if we just handed over our taxes?
