I got a quote for the '03 SV650S that I want. Well basically just on an $8500 645cc bike. Here is the breakdown. Does it look right to you or should I be happy it is such a good rate?

Should I be looking into private insurance/will they even quote me? This will be my first street bike and my first year with a license.

    No, they won't quote you.

You probably won't ride in winter at all.

Is the $3438 for a full year including discount or not?

$1200 seems acceptable for six months.

$3438 is for a full year excluding discount. With discount it would be $2407.

    I won't ride in winter at all. 6 ~ 9 months a year max.

How long until they will quote me privately? 5 years?

Try bumping your collision & comp to $500. With that, an 02 SV (same declared value) & 40% discount, I paid just under $900 for 6 months.

Most private placeses are 10 years with a car licence, and some with bike licence.

sounds about right to me with only 30%...I paid around $900 for my '02 SV (I have 43%). I wasn't able to find anybody who offered private insurance. Let me know if you find any. Canadian Direct will only insure cruisers.

Well that's an ICBC quote, you can take it or leave it! If you have 10 years driving experience, go to Megson or Coast Capital!

I pay $1050/yr for liability only !! (15% discount) boo hoo hoo!

See the above quotes...."only insures cruiser bikes, only insures guys with 10+ years experience etc.. This is what you can look forward to with private insurance! ICBC cannot do such things. Just wait till these companies experience some claims. You will see rates sky rocket. Get it while it's cheap!

Megson & Coast Capital have been around for several years, at least, and they're still offering kick ass rates.

Bike claims cost insurance companies the same or less than car claims in every way except theft. That includes the most expensive- INJURY claims!

I don't really think bike insurance is going to suddenly jump.
