Kawasaki's Eric Bostrom won an unprecedented fourth AMA Superbike National at Pikes Peak International Raceway today, this one coming at a perfect time to revive his championship hopes.
Bostrom was dominant, taking the lead from fast starter Anthony Gobert on the second lap and leading the rest of the way. The race was stopped six laps short of the scheduled 46 laps when Mike Ciccotto crashed on the exit of turn four and the red flag was brought out as the Floridian was trapped under his Suzuki.
At that point, Bostrom had 5.2 seconds on Erion Honda's Kurtis Roberts, the RC51-mounted rider putting in a solid effort to chase Bostrom for the entire distance. Third place went to championship leader Aaron Yates, the Georgian moving past American Honda's Ben Bostrom late in the race to take the final rostrum spot.
Ben Bostrom held on for fourth place with Ducati Austin's Anthony Gobert rounding out the top five finishers.
Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin never got higher than third, but he started to fade backwards with a rear tire problem. The problem was bad enough that - on the 35th lap - Mladin pitted for a new rear tire and he ended the race in ninth place.
"Kawasaki has been working hard to get some of these checkered flags this year," Eric Bostrom said. "Hopefully, there's some more to come in the coming weeks. I love Colorado and thanks for your support, guys."
