So my kid got a dirtbike some time back.......Rode it a few times, but the thing just simple scared the shit out of him. He dropped it on himself a couple of times in the yard, and basically refused to get back on it. As with most kids, listening to dad on these types of things isn't always on the top of the priority list. He's pretty well been off it for 6 months and I hadn't pushed it much.
A couple of weeks ago, I asked him if he would go take lessons out at Popkum. The time seemed right, and he agreed that he should give it another go.
Anyways, long story short, I took him up there today. He spent 3 hours in a group of 4 kids up in the flat lesson area in behind the main track. Well shit, by the end of the day he was bombing around on there in 2nd gear going up hills around cones, ploughing through puddles and having a great time.
I've seen the odd thread out here with a few of you with kids who want to ride, but don't know where to start. There was one kid today who'd never been on a dirtbike, and she plodded around in first gear, and did just fine. Another kid was about 11 and hadn't ridden since he was 5. He was doing great out there too.
Anyways, highly recommended. They run the kids classes Sundays 12:30 to 3:30. $150. 2 instructors and only 4 kids/class, gear/bikes included. Gets the kids a real feel for the sport with the shop there, 450's ripping around with riders covered in mud etc.....
There ya go,
