Whew! Had a great day today down in WA state, and with all the talk about the shitty conditions of the various backroads around Princeton right now, plus the distance / time to get there and back, I've decided to switch destinations and ride in WA State again tomorrow.
Plan now is to leave VCR at 6:15 am, cross the border at Blaine at 7, have breakfast at Big Al's; get away from there about 8; have a meet-up at the Chevron in Sumas at 8:30 for those from the eastern valley; and then ride a variety of backroads, staying in lower elevations for a while, then getting up to Baker maybe mid-day, when the weather warms a bit. Should be back to the border by about 4, maybe home by 5 or 5:30 (quicker for Nexus holders).
Stuff to consider:
1. The southbound Nexus lane in Sumas does not open till 8am - I experienced about a 20 minute wait this morning at 7:15am.
2. Bob's in Sumas does not open for breakfast on Sunday till 9 am, so if you're in need of a store-bought breakfast, plan to eat elsewhere.
3. Nexus is never a problem at Blaine, and this morning the 'normal' line was only a 10 min wait or so, but if you don't have a Nexus card and are joining us at Blaine, give yourself a bit of a margin.
That is all...
