We all know of members of who have been killed or left with life changing injuries. But it is almost never discussed.
My question is, why?
Who are we protecting? That question is rhetorical, obviously we are protecting the injured or dead person, those who witnessed it, and to a lesser extent, the BCSB riding community.
But to me it seems fairly callous and self serving. We all want to look perfect. We don't want to embarrass the person, or ourselves.
But we are not perfect, and this is a hobby in which perfection is all too often a requirement. Last year a rider I rode with on a number of occasions, a good rider, a rider I would describe as sensible or safe, was left paralyzed after a group ride.
Not because of a reckless act, a deer, or meteorite, but because of a momentary lapse in judgement.
If you are a new rider reading this I hope you understand how serious every moment on a motorbike is.
One final note, if I am ever killed or injured on the road, share the story.
