...so I'm riding to work, and there's this cage that's been a little in front of me most of the way. It's swerving in and out of traffic, accellerating rapidly and barely braking in enough time to avoid rear-ending other cars, swerving in and out of my lane part-way, etc.
At a red light, I look over and see this woman who looks drunk (at 8:30AM) slumped in her seat. Light goes green, and she weaves a bit through traffic to get in front and punches it. I decided to exceed the speed limit by a little bit to keep her in view (ok, I had to go nearly double the limit just to keep her in sight), and once we catch up to traffic at the next light we're more or less side-by-side again.
As fortune would have it, I was in the right lane, she in the left, and cars between us in the center. Apparently she wanted to get to the gas station on the right side of the road just on the far side of the intersection though, since she very nearly hit me while cutting in front of another vehicle and heading for the station.
I'm pissed off, so I pull in behind her and park immediately behind her - left the bike running, and in neutral of course.
She gets out of the car. The conversation goes like this:
"Excuse me, ma'am."
"What the fuck do you want?"
"I don't mean to be rude, but when you drive like that you endanger my life, and I really don't appreciate it."
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"You nearly killed me twice with your swerving around, and nearly caused several accidents which could easily have also involved me."
Allow me to note at this point that at no time was I in front of her.
"Yeah, well, I don't like you fucking with your brakes like that, you prick!"
I actually took a step back and blinked.
"I'm on a motorcycle, lady. I'm not suicidal, I certainly didn't brake-check you."
"Yeah? GO FUCK YOURSELF!"
...and she went into the gas station, and I left to get to work.
Hindsight being 20/20, I shoulda called the cops.
I think it's important that we talk to pedestrians and cagers that give us dirty looks or try to kill us. Some people will react like she did, but in some cases, it'll sink in.
Remain calm, just tell them that they're playing with YOUR life, and you don't like it.
