I messed up.
I rented a car the other day from Budget on Georgia. I'd heard the stories about people getting charged out the ass for windshield chips and dings but I didn't think it would happen to me. I didn't get their full rental insurance becase a) it cost more than the rental itself and b) I thought my credit card or my own ICBC policy would protect me (stupid).
Drove to Kelowna and back yesterday and when I went to return the vehicle this morning, and the guy finds this on the back:
I have no effing idea how a vertical scratch got there. It just breaks the surface of the paint and it almost looks like a key mark. A person walking by wouldn't leave an up and down mark like that, I never hit anything, and that area of the car is recessed in from the bumper by a couple inches so it's unlikely it could have been anyone bumping the car.
Budget needs a while to "estimate the damage", so from my understanding, they're either going to
1 - send it to an ICBC approved body shop who knows they can charge whatever they like, and essentially say they need to replace the entire body panel or
2 - Just not fix it, but charge me a grand or so anyway, and let a few more people bang the car up too, charging everyone along the way, until they finally send it in and get it all fixed at once... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...-car-1.1130148
I know all I'm asking for is I-told-you-so's, but has anyone been in this position before?
