Who the hell would shop at the Sony store any more??
That market is dead, Sony is getting out of much of that entirely.
I was told video games is where mucho $$$ is being made with that company.
I think I stepped into a Sony store once, about 5 years ago, and only a couple of steps..........
DON'T STUFF THE CAGERS!
dammit, where am I supposed to go for new releases on minidisk format??
nah, just kidding. I have a Zune for that
"I dread beyond all else the growth of the petty tyranny of restrictive legislation, the transference of disciplinary authority from the judiciary to the constabulary, the abandonment of every constitutional safeguard of individual liberty."
When minidisc came out it ruled. Awesome format. I kind of miss it.
both of their customers must be disappointed.
But where will I buy their new $300 walkman??
I think one of their biggest problems is trying to sell at full pop retail when they also supply to resellers who are not bound to pricing. (i.e. web stores or best buy) I recently bought a Sony tv and after I tried to buy one from the Sony store in town, I basically walked out the door. They wouldn't price match a best buy sale and were adamant about trying to sell me the new model of the same tv that was $300 more and no different features.
I know a shop in Ontario that has, hands down, the best Sony pricing in Canada and it always puts Sony pricing to shame. They are Sony's biggest customer (they move TONS of product) and anyone who does 15 minutes of shopping can always find a better price. Even Sony's online store is pathetic, even when stuff is on sale it's still more expensive than other easily searchable stores online.
The retail monster is changing significantly and it will be interesting to see how much more of this we see in the next few years.
I think sony made a smart decision to close these stores as theres no point in dragging a dead horse. You open these stores up, make maximum profit while your product in hip and in demand and then you close them down.
I love sony, they make quality products and dont think their products are going anywhere. Think sony should concentrate its effort in innovating newer tech.... they are one of the few innovative companies that come out with new original ideas and am sure sony is here to stay in the long run.
As far as TVs go, yes, they're behind by a lot. LG has white OLED technology, and Samsung just has massive LED backlit production capability and refined their products well.
I agree that Sony still makes quality products, but yeah, in some areas they're just not moving forward enough.
