Motovan build comences (Picture heavy thread warning)

Will be posting a lot of pics along the way, so hopefully it doesnt kill anything, including BCSB server haha

As some may have seen, I was originally planning on using a trailer to haul around my track bike. Long story short, had to sell it due to strata rules. Always prefered to get a van, but trailer came at a good price and always had doubts about cheap vans, primarily getting stuck in the middle of nowhere if it breaks down.

Found 2001 GMC Safari (same as Chevy Astro) in North Van and went to take a look. It was used for irrigation work, so it was beyond filthy inside and out, but it had no mechanical issues. Started up right away, no smoke, it was kep in good running condition, parts were replaced when needed and so on. Mechanic did a full checkup and only issue was that front right caliper seized, so wheel wasnt moving freely.

Seller just wanted to get rid of it, and several other trucks, as whole fleet was replaced, and insurance renewal was coming up for all of them in few days. He was asking for $1500, I offered him $600 and he took it.

Outside when I got it. It had full wrap on both sides and rear doors.

Inside. Only thing missing is 2 sets of shelves (one on each side) 3 levels high, and a full bag of miscellaneous garbage

    More pics of inside:

Once shelves were out, gave it a good vacuum to get as much dirt out as possible, and washed the console and doors

After initial cleaning. Still a lot of dirt, but looking better

Decided I was going to power wash the whole inside. That worked out quite well

Peeled off the whole body wrap sticker crap.

Plugged up holes that were left over from the shelves. Used JB Weld putty. Next up, paint the whole interior (metal only) with Rustoleum to prevent rust spreading from few small spots and to get it cleaner. Then start putting down insulation on the floor, ceiling and sides and make outlines for walls, floor and ceiling.

If anyone has any tips, ideas or something I should be looking into or doing, please post up. I am just going by trial and error. Read a bunch of messages on various boards and saw bunch of pics and how to's, but could always use more info.

hahah yeah there were some crazy things people wrote on their vans. While I would never do it, it gave me a good laugh seeing someone crazy enough to actually do it.

Astro/Safaris are great platforms, I've owned a couple over the years. Pretty sure it'll work great for you and for 600 bux you can't lose.

Just to clarify, the Modern van belongs to Modern and Murray is the one who built the cargo box that turns into a back bench seat and installed the rubber floor. It's usually parked two houses down from motorcycle parking behind Modern if you want to have a look cvrle1.

    Nice purchase!
