Another awesome WMRC race weekend!!
THANK YOU to all the Corner Marshals!! You people are absolutely the best and I hope you all enjoyed watching the great battles up close.
I had such a good weekend, I finished 1st or 2nd in all my races! Had some good battles with James Nadolny, Ken LaLonde and Bez Cajee. Bez was definitely the rider to beat all weekend in the big classes.
I also had the huge honor of riding with local racing legend Steve Crevier on the Saturday trackday and in a 6 lap bonus race at the end of the day yesterday!
The last time that I raced against Steve at Mission was in '06, he had started from the back of the grid and was working his way through the field and when I was passing Colin Rimes on the inside heading into Turn 2 when Steve passed us both on the inside! I'll never forget it!
On a different note, it's no secret that the grid sizes are down and not just here. It's scary to think that our AMAZING sport is in decline. We simply need more people in BC to start racing. I know the number one reason stopping people from racing is money, but people don't need to spend a ton of money modifying a streetbike into a racebike:
- drill necessary bolts
- non glycol coolant
- braided brake lines
- change gearing (sprockets)
- spare parts
Any aftermarket parts are simply a luxury, I might just do an experiment by racing a GSX-R with the mods listed above and run street tires without tire warmers just to see how competitive it would be.
I don't know what the answers to increase the number of racers are, if anyone has some constructive advice please share.
