So after 14 years driving and 10 years with a bike license ( 6 seasons with bikes ) I've been able to avoid "close calls". I place quotes around "close calls" cause I do not really consider those events as close calls, due to the fact that I see them and anticipate them, therefore easily avoid them. You know.....the typical car in the merging lane beside you, he is not slowing or accelerating....so obviously he does not know you are there..... or the traffic jam, you are coming up beside a driver that looks impatient, which will most definitely try to jump into that hole. Been there done those, 1 - 2 a month guaranteed due to the fact that I try to commute each non-rain day from late feb to late oct.
Today i believe I had my first real close call. I was heading down kingsway from royal oak towards new west. I get around all the damn traffic, hit a nice clean stretch. Lonely 350z creeping down at 50 ish.... I was cruising 70-80...slowing down. He is in the middle, I'm in the right lane. No parked cars, no other cars. Now my bike is loud...too loud. Since i took the cat off I'm considering reinstalling it, or the silencers back.
So as I've said, I'm slowing down, I downshift+rev match as I'm passing his passenger door...kind of like "hey I'm here, mind me". At the same time as I was comming up on slow moving cars a block away, so was shaving speed.
As my back wheel was in the vicinity of his front wheel...aka in plain sight and sound of him, I spot that douche with the corner of my eye swerve hard into my lane and park. And when I say hard, it was ramming speed.....He must have missed me by an inch or two. Damn I felt like ripping his pass mirror off and beating his head from right to left until it gets stuck in a constant shoulder check. Its not like I was in your Effing blind spot. Was loud as hell...right beside/in front of you...... I need to go unrage...../rant
