There are old riders and there are bold riders. There aren't any old, bold riders.
Ride safe folks.
terrible outcome! but the title makes it sound like the accident took place in the WSBK race itself - not so; to clarify, it was in the Motoamerica Superbike /Supersport 1000 race.
unfortunately, the risk is always there in racing, mostly of getting hit by another bike. a sad day indeed.
In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensible.
I worked Race Control at Laguna Seca this weekend. Up until that last race, it was one of the best events we have ever put on.
Just after the starter announced "we are racing", we saw the rider's hand go up. His bike stalled after moving a few feet. Then the carnage happened as we watched on. Luckily he was pretty far back in the grid, it would have been even worse had he been closer to the front.
Kudos to my workers for being so professional, the medics, the response workers, the ambulance drivers and helicopter pilots.
We then used three of the four worker transport vans to take the families and crew to the various hospitals. There were other injured riders taken by ambulance to hospital. It took a long time to get all the workers off the track using only one van, but everyone understood.
Thoughts and prayers go out to all the families, the other riders in this incident, and the deceased rider's mechanic. Can you imagine what is going through his mind?
Not sure if I will be able to work the EMRA race next week, it may be too soon.
What a mess... RIP
How fast would these guys be going? Probably a second gear, full on launch, no time to react...
Thanks for the true info Debbie.
I'm not addicted! and I'm not quitting!!
Heeere's your sign...
...and "always" look on the bright side of life...
how fleeting, these random moments called 'life' ...
I define Hell as having to ride back and forth from Blaine to Tijuana on I - 5 in perpetuity.
Ahhhhh man, thats so tragic. Yea cant even begin to imagine what the families are going through.
RIP...sad to see/hear this.
