Well I guess I did my first stoppie today. A Camry decided it didn't want to wait behind a line of left-hand turners and moved over just as I was going by. I moved over into the right lane while I braked, but ran into a right hand turning Explorer. My bike did an endo, then fell over and slid for a bit. I'm not sure exactly sure what my body did, but I've got a bruised left shin and a burn on my right. Wrists are a little sore from the impact, too. I was only doing about 45kph when I had to make the maneuver and probably scrubbed a good 20-25kph before making contact with the Explorer. I got tonnes of witnesses, one even chased down the hit-and-run driver to get their licence and let them know they were fleeing the scene of a crime.
I had two great weekend rides planned, too!
Now I can't touch my bike because it's evidence, plus I'm not sure how badly it's damaged. The right-hand fairing are all broken, including the front piece. Rear-brake bent assorted scrapes, and I'm not sure if the forks got tweaked. The right mirror is at least bent, maybe fatally.
I'm not really mad - more disappointed. I'm going to miss two great rides on two sunny weekends, plus my faith in humanity took a tumble. It's ok to make mistakes, but if you cause an accident then drive away - especially when you knock off a motorcyclist. That's pretty heartless.
Here's a pic of the bike apres accident.
