I don't really participate on the forum too much, but I'm on here reading a lot. I figured this would be the best place to come for some advice.
I just got hit today, I had just ridden through an intersection in the left lane, (2 lane road), I was doing the speed limit, and all of a sudden this guy rips out of a driveway off to the right side, cuts across 2 lanes with the intent of getting into a left hand turning lane. He crossed my lane, going diagonal just as I was coming up to the turning lane. I had enough time to slam on the brakes, but since it's a smaller bike (FZR250) I managed to slow it down but end up locking just before I bounce off his rear-left quarter panel. Bike ends up going down on the right side. Mirrors broken off, pipes scratched, fairings broken and scratched all over the place, steering feels like it may not be quite 100% anymore, though that might just be an illusion on my part, and my jackets a little scuffed. (on a side note leather's worth every penny) No real pain on my part, though I can feel that I landed on my knee and elbow, and have a bit of a kink in my back.
After my initial screaming at the elderly gentleman for knocking me over and potentially killing me, he gives me his contact info and tells me he'll pay for all damages.
What would be my best course of action in this? Still go through ICBC? My bike isn't worth a ton of money, but it's gonna rack together some pretty good bills getting all of those little things fixed up. Also, my jacket, while still in good shape, is no longer in the perfect shape it was before. One of my buddies said that I should also hit up a hospital ASAP, just to get a checkout and get the offical verdict while any damage is still fresh.
Thanks for the advice, and keep your eyes peeled for those crazy cagers.
