My first introduction to the term "fashion" would have to be sometime around grade three....when all the kids that played b-ball weren't "cool" unless they had "Nike" trainers.....then it escalated from there...got into highschool and it was Tommy Hillfigger and CK and Ralph Lauren, etc.......i didn't mind these fashions....they were all about being nicely dressed and the people that got with it looked stylin'.
Now, everywhere i go....(and that new tv show "boardhouse" or whatever it is, i think shares a degree of blame)....I see people wearing "Billabong"....i can't go anywhere in Salmon Arm, or the okanagan without seeing 95 percent of the under 35 crowd wearing Billabong clothing.
I know it's a pointless rant, but it pisses me off something fierce.
Iknow for a FACT taht in the slammin 90 percent of the people flossin this kit, have never seen the ocean, let alone ridden a wave.....and they pimp this shit, like they created it..
When i lived in england and surfed my ass off, yeah we all wore quicksilver, billabong, hot tuna, the list goes on.....we didn't wear nike cuz it was "cool"..and levis sure as hell had no role in our lifestyles.
come to think of it...this is something very much like city slickers that get all fitted out in mint condition levis bootcuts, and stetsons and have never lifted a bale of hay in there lives, never mind branded a calf, or repaired a fence.
I guess i'd just like to know from you guys wether the majority of you follow fashion cuz you find it suitable....or cuz you are scared not to fit in, or what the deal is?
I have to admit.....i would feel like a total poser now, walkin around in my billabong set ups , full well knowing i've not seen a drop of salt water for over 4 years.
