You guys and your bad juju cursed me yesterday!
After reading all these posts about people forgetting disc locks on and driving off, only to unceremoniously dump the bike, I thought to my self yesterday morning "Self, I should put that disc lock in the slot closest to the caliper." But, alas, because of where I was parked it wasn't real easy to reach so I put it a couple of slots away.
So I'm leaving work, and sure as shit stinks, I forget to take the lock off. Ease out the clutch, hear a noise, and BAM! the bike is on its side. Oh f*ck, I thought, and tore off my gear in frustration. Pull the bike up and the freakin' footpeg mounting bracket is busted, and my peg and shift lever are hanging from the linkage. Double f*ck. Some minor cosmetic damage and a slightly bent clutch lever, but worse, the bike is completely unrideable. (On the bright side, I now know my tilt switch works).
So it's the bad juju here and the heat that made this happen. Because it was so bloody hot I changed my routine and didn't put my jacket on until I got the bike started and my helmet on. Usually I put it on as soon as I take it out of my locker. It's amazing how much of a routine we go through when getting going; it doesn't pay to mess with it.
Fortunately we have a company pickup truck so I was able to take that home. I've located the part I need at BK, so I should be good to go for this afternoon.
