for a while there's been a bunch of mods/upgrades i've been wanting to do to the RC, some aesthetic and some functional. paint, suspension, brakes, controls and some custom body work. of course as i've dived into the rabbit hole other things/opportunites have presented themselves so extra wants have morphed into needs and the budget has kind of gone poof.
due to a get off last year, some panel repair and tank paint was necessary. i'd previously spent some time thinking about paint schemes and colour combos and now i had more reason to put serious thought into it. i finally figured out what i would do, something very honda but different than typical honda colours. it was in the constant search for cool parts that i came across a tail mod someone had done and was selling in their bike part out. unfortunately by the time i found the post the tail was sold but the seed of the idea was planted and i began to figure out a way to make it happens. this pic served as the inspiration.
first step in doing the tail mod was finding a tail section that would fit the bill and getting a hold of another RC sub frame. it also involved a little bit of faith in opening the wallet as i was doing this fairly blind except for that pic and had no idea if the stuff i was buying a would actually work. the tail i decided on was an 08 cbr1000rr superbike race tail from armour bodies as it was one of the few that had the "side wings" on it.
first step was to go pick up the first batch of goodies on the bird
then the work began of taking things apart on the RC and getting the sub frame cut
once i got some of the stuff out of the way i was able to do a quick mock up to get a first hand idea of what i actually had to do. i was pretty happy with the results
