I've been thinking of racing motorcycles since I started riding ten years ago. This weekend I finally did it and it kicked ass!
I did my first novice race on Saturday at Mission, got the crappiest start ever and spent the rest of the race trying to catch up. Saturday's afternoon race saw me at the very back of the grid due to a scoring error. Luckily I got a much better start and passed a lot of riders throughout the race, but with only 7 laps it's hard to pass 30 riders
Sunday was much better, I was 9th on the grid on the third row for the first race. I got a decent start and worked my way up to second after 2-3 laps, the leader had put a bit of a gap on the rest of the field so I had my work cut out for me! I was pretty stoked when the gap was closing every lap, then the leader handed me a gift by outbraking himself going into turn 1 allowing me into the lead which I held for the rest of the race! Race 2 on Sunday had me on the pole since I won the morning race. To my surprise I got a great start and held the lead for the first few laps. Then I made the mistake of looking behind me, as soon as I did that I had someone coming up the inside of me into turn 3. Luckily I got him back on the exit, we swapped positions a couple times throughout the race but in the end I stayed ahead for the win
It was pretty damn cool to stand on the top of the podium on my first race weekend. It was even more cool to have all my freinds from this site cheering for me on the cool down lap and at the awards, it was soooo cool having someone I know at almost every corner! Big thanks to all the BCSB corner workers, I've been there and although it's the best seat in the house, it can be a pretty long day in that heat. Huge thanks to Bieu for driving me out there and sharing his pit, and Kim and Bruce you guys rocked out there
Unfortunately the next T&T isn't until September, and the next race at Mission is in October. I think I'll have to get down to Portland or Seattle cause I'm totally addicted.....
