I had an interesting encounter with the park patrol at seymour today.
I was riding moderatley quickly up the mountain, and towards the top passed a park ranger. I stopped at the top of the mountain and low and behold mr. ranger comes driving up to me. Thinking that his bc parks designation held no real authority, I was light hearted as he approached. The first words out of his mouth "you were speeding, I'm evicting you from the park". Well, ok, no big deal, maybe he does have the authority to do THIS.
Then, "licence and registration please". I was like woah, your not a cop. Then he said that if I didn't produce these documents I would be ticketed for non-compliance with a peace officer, blah blah blah.
But wait, it gets worse. After taking my info back to his truck for like 20 minutes I was getting pretty pissed off over him wasting my time. Finally he comes out and says "your lucky. I was gonna give you a speeding ticket but I wrote down the wrong address (change of address sticker on back). What! speeding ticket! This park guy was gonna rob me for going a safe speed on a deserted road.
Anyway, I didn't get the ticket and was "escorted" out of the park and not allowed to return for 3 days.
The purpose of this story you may ask? Those park patrol guys in the green trucks can write you tickets! Copied from the govt website:
"22. A park ranger has the powers and authority of a peace officer for the purposes of enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Act and control of traffic within a park or recreation area."
I had no idea. Just a heads up to watch out for these guys too!
