    Hmm, a fairly recent article for USA today on octane...

    I don't know about this one:

    Extreme pressure inside the cylinders causes knock, which is the sound of the pistons literally rattling inside the cylinders.
    But another thing in the article which was also in the top article is that most modern engines have knock sensors, which retard the ignition timing if needed or somethin' like that...

    Does anyone know if motorcycle engines have that?

    Has anyone actually had a motorcycle engine break down and know it is because of using lower octane than they should have used?
