This is some the posts from the trip
THE Monkey Ride 2003........(long)
Well.......the dust is settling, the vans have gone and my neighbours have put the pitchforks back in the sheds......(not sure about Keiths tho ! )
The weekend started Fri night with the arrival of, Papercup, GLM and...........Wild FX Canadian blerk ! and Spoon...sandancer extraordinaire ! ,
we had a top Chinese meal, lots of BS, and a good larf !
Sat morning, 9 am start to get a nice local ride in before the hordes descended.......except....the XR wasn't playing !
FX managed Ooohhhh ......400yds before it crapped out on him !
We pushed it back to my house, where we stripped it, and after about 3/4 hour found the Plug cap was loose.... an easy fix in the end, but what chaos it caused finding it !
So bike re-assembled, we set off....., FX showing us some one handed wheelies.....cool till he jerked the bars onto full lock where upon the thing took off like a scalded cat!!
Ahhh..the throttle cable was left the wrong side of a tank mount....and every time he turned the bars...it revved the engine !
We did eventually fix it, and continued back in a loop till we met up with Lawman and Trumps, who had turned up and were running the CRF in before the Sun ride.....
the rest of Sat was spent with food(mcD's), organsing Trailers, vans, bikes etc and generally getting sorted......till......the PUB !
Keith magnificent efforts were much appreciated, fine Ale and fine food...(Ok.some of the Ale wasn't to Southern Shandy standards....but we thought it was OK ! )
A good night was had by all.......FX was handing out NMRO T shirts....(cheers mate) and got to bed around 1 ish..in preperation for the following day !
In spite of the weather forecast..it dawned bright and sunny.... and after a bit of messing around, we arrived at the meeting place in plenty of time....when all the bikes had arrived, the final tally was 34......and what a lot of bikes that is !
We set off.........the first few miles had a no of junctions in, but all went well........till Mark Jackson......discovered that if you fill your XR650 up with oil to the mark on the dip stick, WITHOUT running the engine first..you have a tad too much in. !!!!
It had pissed ALL over the back tyre, the road, it was belching smoke out still..once we had emptied out the excess, blagged a towel to clean his aorbox and done a burnout to clean the tyre....job sorted......... AHHH good start then.....
However to be fair it was the only hiccup and all else went smoooooth......the first real taster of Yorks roads....(Over the Rocks!) had a fair few smiles appearing....we then re-grouped and made our way along the main road in Pately Bridge......Stood on the pegs looking back...all I can say is what a Fecking Awesome sight, 34 bikes were strung out over a mile of road!
Pately didn't know what had hit it..there was a bit of slow traffic in front and all of us trundling slowly thru...the whole place stopped to see WHAT the noise was !
We then took the turn down "Lower Wath " a veritable twisty turny road of the highest order.......
My Co-leader Neil, was on a Fazer 1000 and manged to keep up down this road and a fairly "brisk" pace....top lad !
This road never fails to produce grins and comments......Today was NO exception......
We carried on to the first stop and had a natter and a breather, then onto the Gravel roads....better then the last recce, but still bad enough in places for us to slow the pace right down to prevent off's !, Joining the main road again to make the first fuel stop, we set off "like fook ", I was leading and Neil was behind on the Fazer, followed by Jim Brodie and an assortment of others.....
In the first village as we slowed, Neil came along side, gesturing to his Crash Bungs on the Fazer....he'd had it Soooo LOW, he touched em down !
'Ere.....that blokes a NUTTER !
Re -fuel.....then "Bellerby Ranges", for regular listeners, you may recall this is where Badrider earned his Captain Cartwheel title !...so after a short "Talk " we set off......this time safely negotiated by all......(Thank you Lord)
In due course we arrived at the stunt area, where we set about trying to kill ourselves......FX showing everyone up, Mad Roy doing the chair and a fun half hour or so ensued........
We then set off for Lunch, Mr Brodie however had sneaked off, found a pub and ordered food......bolloxing the plan as we were some distance away from the planned stop.....after a brief discussion we split, Neil taking the Main group to Hawes, whilst I waited with Jim, Daz,Roy and FX at the Pub, to show the way when food was served.
Food eventually arrived, was eaten and then we set off to catch up the others......Daz......turned around to give the crowd a show, over did a stoppie and flipped it proper ! He took a bad fall and the bike went over his neck !
We all rushed over, all he was concerned about was his Ribs as it hurt to breathe.....he'd had a lunch box with the helmet cam in it down the front of his jacket and he'd landed on this !
He got his breath back eventually, but was obvioulsy in pain, so when we got to Hawes, WRSM took him and LMRR to Northallerton Hospital for a check.
I'm sure Daz will post up all the details, but he is described to me as poorly, but still decided to go home and is on his way as we post !...Get well soon ya silly sod !
As usual the YZ survived almost unscathed
After sorting all this, we set off again, some nice roads followed, I ran up and down the pack with the helmet cam , so some good footage and pics should appear
WE arrived safe and well back here in sunny Knaresborough with no more misaps and the ensuing post match talk was full of....Oohhh I nearly......Did you see when ......? Corr.....that was close......etc etc !
Everone seemed to have a good time, I know I did
The whole weekend was superb, Great Company, great seeing Old faces Nice meeting some new ones
FX is Barking Mad in a nice way !
Glad you made the effort to Come Moby, and Trumps and everyone else........
Final ride list was.........
15) Ian (Marks mate)
18) Jim Brodie
20) Big Trunks
32) MAD Roy !
33)Man on LC4+kid !
34)Rich (Keiths mate)
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the respect shown to our homes this weekend, tis much appreciated....
see ya next year !
After going my own'special' route Funners caught me and got me to turn round. Ended up a group of 4 going over the twisty bouncy road to the stunt zone, Funns, Me, Papercup and GMax, twas superb, Funns put up a nice pace and we al got some good air at speed. I'd Love to do that road again and again and again
In the afternoon session Neil on the Fazer got the pace bang on - fast enough to be good but not crazy fast for peeps who did'nt know the road - perfect (his wheelies were bloody impressive too)
Mad Roys one wheeled 520 which goes round corners
(L)Awful snoring all night and then pretending it was Trumps Vegas and me........ He were farting a lot as well - I could smell the jism
Daz's get off, get well soon.
Thanks to ther lot of yers for a top doo. And special thanks the the Mrs Funns for putting up wi us. Tis appreciated
WOW what another top weekend
Well I`ve just got in and knackered.
The best bit of road for me was the one that the pub that Mr Brodie stopped at was on. But then again I`d only done half the ride out before the detour to hospital
Daz had x-rays with an all clear result but suspected liver or kidney damage (propably due to the camera being down his jacket) and a few bumps and bruises. He`s home now drugged up on pain killers. Lets hope he`s not too sore in the morning.
Massive thanks to
Gixxer750 - for ferrying my bike
Midge - for the seat in the van
KTM keith - for the bed and brekky
WildFX - for the wicked Tshirt
Funners - for the organising Top job chap
Well myself and the hairnet survived yet ANOTHER NMRO
NMRO by spoony
First off like to say a huge thanks to Keith for having me, and Funners and Co for a well-organized top weekend.
Ok the weekend started for me on Friday, for some reason I thought the Rideout was Saturday, (somethings never change then). Friday night was topped with a trip to the Chinese, for some top nosh with Keith +misses Guy and misses, Gmax +misses, Andy, Kev, Mat and myself, ( and no you cant have the crispy duck) a good night with good and great company. Then back to Keiths for a nightcap.
Up early sat morning to prepare for a mini Rideout. Oh was I looking forward to it ….NOT..still had those nice Teflon GPR80s on which I crashed on. Saturday was the first time I had rode the CCM properly since rebuilding her and since the crash, so really needed to get my head together. After several failed attempts (due to Hondas reliability NOT ) it was back to Guys to sort the XR once and for all, which (hats off he did).
So off we went, not 5 miles down the road when Kev (wild fx) was sking off the side of his bike, that really tickled me, and that was the start of it all. Thanks to keith for hanging back while I was getting into the swing of things, and having zero confidense in the tyres. Oh by the way Kev just because the traffic lights are on red it doesn’t mean you can bump onto the pavement to ride around them.
Off to the country we go. Then the fun started, Guy promised no offroading, and what do we do, or should I say Kev does…. The road across the dam was closed, kev spied a path (if you can call it that) and off he goes, everyone follows, through a forest through the ferns, only to find it a dead end. Most of the track was loose gravel whoch the rest seemed to love, but if you never been off road and just trying to get your confidense back (like me) not the best place to ride. The rear brake on the CCM is either on or off, and when I say on I mean locked up, boy I was shitting myself and pissing myself laughing at the same time.
Juast when you think its over we go over a small bridge, full of walkers and familys, well to say they were happy was a understatement, one woman was livid, thanks to papercup, she was trying to pull a fence post out by the time I passed, out of the whole weekend that was the time when I thought I was a gonna. Lucky to escape it was back to the Rideout, and bumped into Lawman and trumps.
Saturday saw the rest of the people turning up through out the day, and the arrival of some decent tyres (thanks Midge) and a big thanks to Keith for fitting them. The nighttime came round and it was off to the pub for some food and beer, in our ever so trendy NMRO t-shirts (thanks Kev) if you want one mail kev. A good night had by all on sat, but a tad to much to drink I think. Sunday morning saw Keith cook full brekkies for all cheers mate. Sundays Rideout was awesome, to see so many motards riding the roads we did was just breath taking, getting airbourne, wheelies off the crests (mine were shite) but still enjoyed it.
Mad roys high chairs were wicked, as were Tonys stoppies, lots of wicked stunts from Kev meant he took the stunt crown, but they were many good stunts from Mad roy Lawman, trumps, Daz, and funners, who seems to have took to his berg like a duck in water. On the whole it was prob on the best biking moments/weekens of my life, it was good to see some old faces (jim Broodie) only kidding mate, Mat, Gmax max, Keith, funners, LMRR, Trumps, Daz, wrsm, and Tony (had me pissing myself) and nice to see wild fx get the stick I did last time, was great to meet Wildfx, and lots of new people, IRSM, Madroy, stonewall, Midge, Rob, Mark Jackson (will the real mark Jackson please stand up), the guy with the loud wolf leathers, sunny, the guy with the mz, shit im crap at names, was good to finally meet Moby top geezer, and big trunkie, and his R30, and everyone I missed, was good to met you all, you helped make a weekend that will stay with me as long as I live, a salute you all, now get the beers will ya,
Wild FX's last day in the UK - bye bye Kev!
A fine last day was had:
IRSM came down with his trailer with the Hybrid onboard so we went out for a ride and met up with Nige Hartford on his 660 and Iriejohn in his pickup.
We went to the new runway that Nige found at Tangmere Aerodrome, an old WWII airbase. It was the first time anyone had been there in anger so we christened it: lots of stunting. Kevin getting the hang of standing on the seat in 4th gear on the XR, and me getting the hang of sitting side-saddle and wheelieing the WR.
Nige, Kevin and I all wheelieing the whole length of the runway (about 500 yards we think). We got some pics of us three abreast and some other cool pics of various stunts; it turns out that you can get both feet on the WR seat (Kev, not me!).
After about 15 minutes some local teenagers turned up and egged us on, even calling their friends and getting them to come; when we left there were 8 or 9 of them, and a few farmers and council workers turned up and clapped as well.
The last person to turn up looked less happy, and started saying he was calling the cops so we retired to a nice pub in the country, and finished off by giving Kevin an authentic olde english farewell.
Anyway, check out the piccies below and join me in wishing Kev a good journey home; we leave Brighton at 05.15 tomorrow morning so we are going to bed soon!
