My girlfriend has wanted to get a bike for a few years now, and that was before she met this biker boy, so she's no wannabe.
She is about to do her Rider's Training, and has her heart set on the sexy styling of the 600s.
Of course, they are some of the wildest bikes out there! I'm not worried about her abilities on the street. She can drive a standard in rush hour traffic, with a cell phone in one hand and a latte in the other, so she's pretty good in a car. But I'd hate to see her crash 'n burn the first week out.
We always see guys buying 'race' bikes for their first ride. You know the type... The ones that wrap them around a pole in the first week! Not that I'm putting anyone down, but us guys must have some major thrill-seeking genes in us. I think its called the "stupid, show-off" gene? I don't think most girls have as many of these genes in them, so maybe she won't have any major problems.
She is also thinking about the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, as an inexpensive starter bike, but she thinks its wimpy. And that tail section is really old-school (I'm working on that part).
Any opinions on the 250 versus going for a 600 right from the start? For those of you that ride a 600+, do you find them really wild, or is it just the way guys always ride the heck out of them that they seem so hardcore? How about the weight difference? How much are you paying for insurance?
Any comments would be appreciated!
