My buddy's all red '96? ZX6R was recently stolen from his apartment's covered parking complex in Richmond. It had a cover and two kryptonite locks on it and it was parked right beside his older cruiser. All he found was a piece of one of the locks. His cruiser was untouched.
He recently purchased another bike and sometime last week, (as he lives right above his parking space) he heard some noise and went down to check it out. He arrived to see 3 young individuals standing around his bike, looking at how he had chained it up with a few locks, chains and what not so he continued walking by and called the cops. The 3 guys left before the cops arrived, apparently deciding that all those locks were too much trouble to deal with but my buddy got their van's license plate. It turned out to be stolen. Anyway, the bike is safe but the cop mentioned the likelihood of those guys being armed with guns so it was a good thing my friend did not confront them alone, even though he could have whupped some serious ass had they not been armed.
Anyway, just a story that might be of interest.
Maybe a whole bunch of locks will prevent theft after all.
