I would like to send a big thank you out to the corner workers, especially Jerry, who was working pre-grid and was the first to get to me.
I would also like to thank everyone who visited me in the hospital and who sent their get well wishes to me.
In case anyone wants to know my take on the crash:
It was half way through the Supersport race and I was gaining on the rider in front of me when I guess I grabbed too much throttle coming out of turn 9 and highsided with emphasis on 'high'. While I was in the air I had a lot of time to think about how much this is going to hurt when I hit the ground.
As soon as I hit the ground I felt my right right leg was broken. Jerry got to me and held my leg in a way that was the least painfull. When I looked down and saw that my foot was pointing in not so much the right direction I was amazed that I didn't pass out.
The rest of the corner worker's including the ambulance got to me and I insisted that my helmet, jacket and left boot be taken off (thanks guys)and then with a good hit of nitrous oxide my right boot was taken off.
So now I'm on the way to the hospital and Kim (C-YA), who I was pitting with, crashes and breaks her toe! Someone said that it was a sympathy crash, thanks babe!
As if that wasn't enough carnage for one day, while I was in emergency in comes Misti Hurst with a broken collarbone. We exchanged war stories and get well wishes and she got carted off to X-ray.
It turned out that I broke my Tibia in one spot and my Fibula in two spots. They put a rod through the Tibia attached with 3 screws and left the Fibula to heal on it's own.
There was major swelling and I had to go into surgery again for a couple of decompression incisions that stayed open for a day and a half. Then back in to close, one closed fine, the other needed a skin graph form my thigh.
Anyways, 13 days later I'm out of the hospital and at home licking my wounds.
As for the bike, it's not bad at all, a bent rim, bent steering damper and bodywork damage (those 97 GSX-R's crash really well) Next year I'll hopefully be on a newer 600 so I can run in 3 classes.
Thanks again to al the BCSB members, corner workers and WMRC members for their help and get well wishes, you guys rock!
See you all at the WMRC awards banquet and at the track next year!
