Riding in to Vancouver this evening around 6:00pm I passed some cars pulled over blocking the HOV lane heading into the tunnel on Hwy 99, and a bike down in the middle of it. It appears a grey car was trying to cut from traffic into the HOV lane and side-swiped a bike. I didn't get a good look at it, but I'm guessing it was a newer-model silver R6 or R1. It was probably a slower speed accident seeing as traffic wasn't moving much. Neither the bike nor the car looked too bad, and what looked like the rider was sitting on the curb removing his jacket. Definitely looked a bit shocked however. Was this anyone we know? Here's hoping their injuries were minimal if any.
I take this route a lot during rush-hour, using the HOV to get by most the line-up to the tunnel. I always fear this exact same thing happening as I ride by in the HOV, which is why I usually try to keep it down around 30km/h or so. Hopefully this rider was doing the same and it kept the damage minimal.
