So, i decided to stay in tonight, and got the hankerin' for a nice hot cup of timmy's coffee and a sammich. i was riding around, getting my bike all warmed up and made my way down there. I got there and the place was fucken packed, so i said "nuts to this, i'll just get some subway."
I was headed west on 96th avenue in Surrey, just before 132nd street, not going too fast coz there was a fair bit of traffic. I was headed along at about 60km/h or so and as i was passing this guy, he suddenly swerved into my lane with no blinker! His car came within a foot or two of hitting my front wheel. I grabbed a handful of brake, and the next thing I knew, i was sliding down the road. Another car full of guys stopped, and they all helped me get my bike back up, and called an ambulance for me. The ambulance came and they had a look at me, just some road rash, and i'll prolly have some crazy bruising on my knee and upper hip. The guy who cut me off gave me all of his info and kept saying how sorry he was. I was asking the ambulance guys how i make an ICBC claim and stuff, and they said they didn't know. They left and the guy who caused the accident proceeded to tell me how much it would suck if we got ICBC involved and how he could help me repair the bike and stuff. Seems like a nice enough guy and had his little daughter there with him, but i am unsure about trusting him, and even told him i couldn't promise him i wouldn't go through ICBC. (this all took place at about 7:30-7:45)
My bike wasn't looking all THAT bad, but took a bit of a beating. The fuel was leaking out of the cap, and flooded the hell outta the engine, the right side fairing is all cracked and shredded, my handlebars are no longer straight, and my pipe and engine block are all scraped.
I am going to the medical clinic in the morning to get checked out, as per the paramedic's recommendation. How do i handle the insurance thing? Will i be found at fault? Will my premiums go up?
Please help with some info, thanks.
(BTW, I was just wearing my Joe Rocket textile jacket, jeans and airwalks, and the jacket held up perfectly. [although, it did slide up enough to expose the upper part of my hip.] and the jeans are toast.)
