Sitting here in Albufeira in Portugal I have to pass on some advice to all you young folks back home in BC
I am 37 years old. My wife and I chucked the jobs we had sold all the crap we owned, rented out the townhouse and flew the bike to Amsterdam. We havebeen on the road for 4 months now and are having a ball.
We have been through England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland , Belgium, France ,Spain and now Portugal. We will be heading to Italy Turkey and other spots before flying the bike to Halifax so that we can see our own country from end to end.
Here comes the advice part, I don't want to sound preachy but here goes,
Save up your money, get the bike you want and travel on it. Dont spend the $$$ on doodads or shiney bits. Do this early in your life as waiting until you are married might be to late. If you have heard of someone's wife/girlfriend making them get rid of the bike you will know what I mean.
If you were going to do a year long trip to anywhere after school do it on your bike. Or take a crappy beater bike with you. To fly our giant GS across to Holland was 1500 cdn.
Travel folks, it will teach you just as much as school will. It has taught me things at the age of 37
See ya back home in July of 2004
