Have you had your identity taken from you?
This is happening more and more.
I would like to bring this to attention, especially this time of year due to the seasonal activities of many people which lends them to become increasingly vulnerable to I.F.
-ensure that web pages are HTTPS when entering personal information
I had one instance recently where a web page wasnt HTTPS and they wanted, of all things, my SIN number.
SIN in Canada does NOT need to be produced to credit card companies, etc.
ONLY in situations where you stand to "make" money do you need to declare a SIN.
Go to the governments website, they have a page which indicates where your SIN may be used with valid reason and legally required.
- keep passwords seperate between online sites and use complex passwords
Never use anything that can be found in the dictionary forwards or backwards or your name or anything which can be found in your name.
eg 87alt^ NOT davesmith
Any more suggestions?
