Does anybody knows what Our Rights are as we're being pulled over by a
Here's what happen;
I was driving home from work yesterday at 6PM (from Vancouver to Coquitlam)
At the corner of Edmonds and Kingsway I was pulled over by a Police
Cruiser.The (Black) African American Officer ran towards my car (1994
Mustang GT) and told me to step out of the car and put my hands on my
head behind my back and he began to handcuff me. I was in shocked by this
as I asked the Officer what did I do wrong. I know that I wasn't speeding or
doing any stupid to violate traffic laws (like back in my younger days).
The Officer told me that I'm driving a stolen car and that he thinks I stole it.
I told him that the vehicle is actually my car and as far as I know, I did'nt
report it stolen to anybody.
I guest he still doesn't believe me and so he put me in the back of his Police
Cruiser.He then took my wallet and then he went to my car.
I saw him go through my glove compartment to look for my registration.About
5 minutes later,I think he realized that he has made a big mistake as I saw
him scratching his head and heading back towards me.He took me out of his
Cruiser and un-cuff me.After that he gave me back my wallet and told me
that this is just a "Routine Check" and that I can go.
I didn't even get an apoligy or anything, just "go can go now this is just a
Never before was I so embarressed by the Authority like this in my Life.
So...my question is;
Do we have any Rights when it comes to a situation like this?
I'm begining to loose faith in our Police Force when it comes to Power Tripping.
