Well, I decided to total up what I've spent on riding since I first took up this ever so great sport/pasttime - July 2003.
Between a bike, lessons, gear, and other miscellaneous expenses, it's gotten rather pricey.
Let's take a look here:
Bike: $2850 (92 Seca II)
Gear: $3460 (see attached picture + $100 for the tank bag not in the photo)
Security: Approx $200 (killer chain + locks + bike cover)
Insurance: Approx $1200 (1 year's worth so far)
Storage: $309+tax for last winter
Miscellaneous: $250 (heated grips, checkups, oil changes, etc)
Learning: $650 (Action + Learner's + Final test)
Grand total: $8920 so far with the things I can remember
And I've done it relatively on the cheap - generally I've snagged some great deals on most of my stuff, including my bike. And a lot of those numbers don't include taxes. I haven't needed everything I've got so far, but most of it I would put in the "necessary - or close to" category for me to feel safe about what I do.
Do I regret it? Not in the slightest, I just sometimes look at that list and think "gee, there's 2/3 of my law school tuition for next year".
Would I do things differently if I could?
Yeah, I wouldn't have bought the Spyke suit (the jacket is too short to wear on it's own) but would have bought something else with a longer jacket that would have cost more anyhow.
I maybe would have given less encouragement to my girlfriend to ride, as that has added a good $900'ish to the total. Ah, what's $900 when you're talking $8000...scratch that, I'm glad she's riding with me.
Nope, I love it, it's worth every minute and every penny - yahoo!
EDIT - Pardon a lot of the illegible numbers - they were totally legible when I was doing the picture.
EDIT #2 - I just remembered to include Action and all in there. Yee haw!
