sprokets

1. ## sprokets

Okay I am a newb this is my first post.
But I have been online the site reading all the articles over the last couple days in hope to be able to answer a ? of mine.

Well I was just wondering how much of a difference change the sprokets will make. Say 1 down in the front 3 up in the rear? This is on a 2002 zx-6r. I am looking into buying it and just wondering how much of a difference it will makw. Also how much its going to screw up my speedo? Any and all help would be appreciated

thanx

3. its gona make a pretty noticable difference. Changing the sprockets is the most noticable mod you could do. My advice for the street would be plus three in the rear. That is the perfect compromise. If you wanna try it out before you spend a bunch of cash just buy a two teeth smaller sprocket in the front for thirty bucks to get an idea of it. Going down smaller in the front though causes more wear so if your sure of what you want and are ready to spend the bucks go for the 520 conversion and go up in the rear.

4. Well the bike I am looking at already has 1 down 3 up. I didn't know how much that would change it thats all. Also is there any way that i can figure out the speed on the bike. Maybe there's a formula somwhere???

5. I went -1 and +2 on my R6, the best mod ever. speedohealer.com has a conversion calculator al you need to know is the stock sprocket sizes and the current ones.

6. Well it's a ratio where torque multiplication takes place this way. If there is X amount of torque being produced at the output shaft then you take a ratio of the rear sprocket divided by the front sprocket and this is the multiplier.

So if rear sprocket has 30 teeth and front has 15 then your have a 30/15 or a 2 times multiplication...

now... add three to the rear and drop one from the front
33/14 = 2.36 multiplication..

Now assume your engine is putting out 50 lbs of torque at the output shaft and do the math

case one 50 * 2 = 100
cast two 50 * 2.36 = 118

An 18% increase in this example

7. Sorry to nit pick...

...but "Sprokets" was a German dance club show, hosted by Deiter.

"Sprockets" are the round pointy things on your bike.
