Okay, I gotta get this outta my system! I just bought a nice akro slip-on a couple of weeks ago. Yeah I love the thing, and how do I justify tossing my money at it? Well, performance gains, sure; sound, definatly; but safety? I thought yes, but I seem a little off. You figure cars might hear me a little better since I'm a lot noisier now, but since I got the pipe 3 cars have nearly squished me!
OK get this SAME DAY I got the thing installed, I'm at a stop light with this lincoln navigator in front of me. He's stopped slightly in the crosswalk, which I noticed and left him lots of room.
He starts backing up at me! Well if my loud grumbling exhaust didnt stop him you'd think my honking the horn would have, to make this slightly quicker I'll sum up that I was running my bike backwards and finally he stopped less than a centimeter in front of me... idiot.
EXHIBIT B! So I happily survived the first attack, my pipe still intact, I'm going home via the Island highway, and this lane is merging onto the highway, so I move over a lane.
Me- full speed, Merging cars- slow slugs... so what was the guy in the new silver sebring thinking when he cut across the two lanes and pushed me right onto the shoulder? Again, deserving a nice honk... which actually didn't do much for him either, he left me half a lane and hardly slowed down.
Finally, yesterday. Buddy at a stop sign decides it's a good idea to cut right in front of me, he did catch me a little off guard, making me swerve into oncoming traffic, but a quick pounce on the gas cut me somewhat safely in front of him.
All this to say beware people!! Though it's just becoming a great time to be on your bike, it's always a great time to be an idiot behind the wheel of the car; and trust me, they've had all year to polish up on how to smoke bikes.
If anyone would like to add their experiences thus far please do!
