I was ogling baby gixxers on buyandsell.com and came across one listed as a *1988* model. I had done some research looking up 400's on the net, and was kinda puzzled to find that the picture in the listing showed a bike with the 1984 stock paint scheme. Have a looky here...it seems legit (though I can't be sure)...
According that that site, the paint scheme was exclusive to that year, and the gixxer was completely redesigned with a new frame for 1988, so it's not just the paint I'm being nitpicky about. I contacted the dealer and asked them about it, and got this reply:
There were no GSXR's in 1984. The first year was 1985 and they only produced a 750. It wasn't until 1988 that the 400 even came out. This bike is a 1988. It has a date stamp on it and the serial # comes back as 1988. The paint scheme is original.
That made me a bit wary...there's another bike listed as a 1987 on buysell.com, and there is a listing on this website for a 1986. Is the website that I consulted wrong? Is the "date stamp" something that you can't fudge? Is there a possibility the info registered under the serial number could be incorrect? I'm interested in the bike, but if they're lying about the year, then who knows what else is untrue.
Thanks for any help y'all can give me.
