Sorry, I wasn't on my bike, but I was with my wife in her new Celica heading to Tofino on the weekend. It's funny anyway.
We got busted for going 129 in a 90 by an unmarked RCMP. He was being really nice, telling us that he will knock the ticket down from $197 to $132 and he will only give us a warning for the illegal license plate cover instead of the $200 fine that goes with that... then he askes my wife where he knows her from.
She explains that she is the senior tattoo artist at Tranceformations (Nanaimo for those not in the know) and he is like "You did my tattto 2 years ago!".
Then there is a brief silence.
He says: "Yeah, I am thinking about coming in again, I have had another kid... so I have additions to the old piece" Shows us the tattoo with normal pride at this point. "So," he continues "I am gonna come in and have some more work, and I don't want you to hurt me." Big cross-out motions on the ticket at this point. "I guess I will see you in a little while" He says, "I should call you before too long and book an appointment, 'cause I know you get busy this time of year."
Hands us the ticket without saying anything... and we both look at each other like... "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?"
Just before he leaves he says "Oh, by the way, don't pay that, it's a warning... don't need you to be mean to me next time I'm in."
Then he leaves us and goes on his way.
We laughed for 5 solid minutes at her DUMB luck.
I could NOT believe it. For the rest of the weekend though she was paranoid about cops everywhere... so I am glad when things like that happen. Keeps us in check.
I whip through that same spot on my bike all the time (right before Nanoose, in the twisties). It is not the normal spot I would expect a cop to be. So, watch out if you are on the island highway... but they seem to be in a good mood this early in the season!
