I was sitting at Starbuck's in Squamish on Monday afternoon when I heard a siren approaching. It was a marked cruiser chasing a white Pontiac at high speed southbound, followed by five more marked and unmarked units. My buddy Don had left a few minutes earlier and was overtaken and almost killed by the speeding Pontiac in Brittania Beach (fortunately he heard the sirens and bailed into the gravel before the Pontiac came around the corner on three wheels). The chase ended a couple of miles up the road when the Pontiac crashed. I think it was extremely inappropriate of the cops to initiate a high speed pursuit, especially with tons of traffic coming back from the long weekend. They could have radioed ahead, put up a roadblock and waited for the guy. Where was he going to go? Instead, the cops decided to play cowboys and endanger the lives of many people. A big thumbs down from me to the Squamish detachment.
