How to change my oil?
How easy is it to change my oil? 00' R6. I change my oil in my car, is it the same procedures.
Twins Are Better
Pretty much the same thing.
Warm the bike up so the oil is warm, go for a little ride. Give it a couple minutes before you drain the oil. Remove the plug to drain the oil... let it drain till its a drip. Replace the drain plug DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE PLUG...finger tight plus 1/2 a turn. Remove the oil filter, careful cause oil will drain from it as well... use a bit of oil on the rubber seal of the new filter. Apply new filter no more than 3/4 turn after its tight. Put in 3 1/2 litres of oil. Start the bike but DO NOT REV THE ENGINE. Run the bike for 1 minute. Turn off and check the oil level. Add oil to make the level (when bike is standing off the kick stand) in the window 3/4 to the top.
The only difference is, that you may have to take off some fairing. Ive never done an oil change on an R6 so i dont know...
Yep. Get the engine up to operating temp, then set the bike level - paddock stand/wall/friend - and remove the drain plug (counter clockwise) and drain the oil into a tin.
When it stops dripping replace the sump plug - do not overtighten! Some will say replace the sump plug washer as well.
Move the tin under the filter and remove that - note any shims or springs and which order they are in. If it's a canister type you can undo it by sticking a screwdriver though it and spinning it off - if you're planning to do the oil regularly set yourself up with one of these ....
makes the job cleaner and easier.
Fit new filter hand tight + a bit after lightly greasing or oiling the 'O' ring.
Remove filler cap and fill to level mark if you have an oil window - if not get a cheap measuring jug from a chemist. Replace the filler cap and run the engine for a few minutes then allow the oil to settle for 10 minutes or so and re-check the level - top up if required.
