so my Ducati is off the road for major surgery and a friend has lent me his 99 Suzuki SV650S (which is for sale, by the way click here)
first off, the SV feels taller and shorter, the supension more plush and the motor whisper quiet after the racket from my Duc. aside from the bark of the pipe there's none of the Ducs top-end and dry clutch rattle.
the SV motor feels just about as strong as the Duc 900, but a side by side comparison would have to be done to know which one was actually faster.
much less road bumps are felt through on the SV, though there's less feedback from the front end. the brakes dont have the same ultra-progressive feel as the Ducs, and i miss the 'zing' of the Duc's semi-floating disc rivets.
you'd think the SV would be more comfy with such a wide plush seat, but for me at least the Duc is better suited.
the SV tips into corners much more readily than the Duc, and is definitely an easier bike to ride through the twisties.
overall i can well understand how the SV was top of the sales charts for so long. what great little bike . . . . . but i still miss my Duc . . .
