So I was on my way down the hill by my house this morning. Cold tires, going about 60 - 70 and the light turned yellow so I hit the brakes (I usually use about 75% front and 25% rear) and downshifted (I use engine breaking a lot...old habit from driving standard).
As soon as I let the clutch out from the downshift, the rear end just fishtailed about 6" - 1' in either direction. Nothing on the road to encourage it, it was clean and dry.
I'm presuming that it's a combination of rear braking + downshifting to a higher rpm + cold tires.
What can I do to avoid it? It's not like it was an excessively high rpm (maybe 5000 - 6000) on the downshift. Is it just a question of being more careful and/or just running the yellow?
