I have an '03 R1 that just today started to cut out randomly when either heading up to high RPM (but not even close to the rev. limiter) or coming down from them. The tach. doesn't just drop fast like when jumping off the throttle in 1st gear at 90 km, it slams down to 1,000 RPM (as if I pulled the clutch, and then just let it out again, only worse), then jumps back to the regular RPM where I have the throttle open to, causing quite a bit of bucking back and forth--it does this randomly, and when least expected (like when heading into a corner). There are only 9,000 km on the bike, change oil regularly, running only 91 or 92 octane fuel, checked over the bike to see if there was some obvious defect (but I found none), and the dealership maintenance for 7,000 km was done about a month ago. ECU? Clutch? Fuel? All three? I've had bikes that would bog down and be under powered due to carb problems, but never with the drastic, quick drops in RPM that I'm experiencing now. I'm stumped.
