I just came home tonight just want to remind everyone check the intersection before they proceed if you're the first at a red->green light (like they taught us at ACTION! ) cause I would've been killed if I didn't tonight. On 57th and Oak and the light turns green for a good 2 seconds then the back of my mind was saying "you never know when some punk decides it's ok to run reds at night on oak" so I checked the intersection and see this dark green last gen Jetta flying through the intersection a good 2 seconds into the red. The passenger and I made eye contact and I gave him the best WHAT THE ()*# ARE YOU THINKING?! look. Thought of giving chase but probably would've caused more problems than good. So just a reminder to everyone, just because you have right of way doesn't mean you're safe ESPECIALLY if you're vunlerable like on a bike.... look for those dates at those intersections and do those 1,2 checks
Similarly, when riding in a straight line down a street, always be on the lookout, never day dream no matter how monotonous the commute is... though I was driving, 2 weeks ago while I was cruising down Granville in the 3rd middle lane during the afternoon, I see this last 2 gen c-class driving on my lane IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION (head on towards me). At first I was thinking probably a eager beaver wanting to make a left turn cutting over early so I just slow down a bit and let them make it. Then I got closer like 4 car lengths away (we were still doing at least 60kph towards each other) I SEE THE B(#$* HOLDING THE WHEEL WITH ONE HAND AND DIALING A PHONE WITH THE OTHER AND I TRY TO MAKE EYE CONTACT AND HER EYES WERE GLUED TO THE PHONE SHE WAS DIALING!!!! I layed on the horn and the guy behind me almost rearended me. Just another example of why we need to keep that avenue of escape if we're riding (I would've been rear ended or hit head on if I was on a bike).
Anyways, great weather out there, hope everyone gets the best of it this year
