I'm in the middle of "spring cleaning" on the Geen Meanie and I'm pissed that I can't ride in this lovely weather. But it was overdue and needed.
I stripped the bike to do inspect the valves (checked out OK as it happened) and found that a valve cover has been leaking slightly and there's tarry oil and grunge all over the front of the engine. So I stripped off the rad and other stuff to let me get in there and clean it up proper like (See this post for pics)
Today I checked the valves and a few other things and still have some more to do. Based on a post by Crotchety Rocket and after seeing Gordopolis' fork oil I'm planning on flushing and refilling my forks. Folks, if your bike is more than two years old DO IT. It gets ugly in there and the damping stops working right. Mine are positively soft and squishy now (the forks you perv!). I sort of wish I'd flushed them after the first season now.
As for my major strip down and cleaning all I can offer in my defense is that the bike will look like new inside the fairings and out. My kind of BLING.
So I was wondering if there's anyone else out there that is stuck with their bikes apart? Let's hear from you and we can all console each other by gathering 'round the tool box, linking arms and singing Kum'baya (or whatever the hell it's called).
