I am looking to buy a bike here, and I seem to have stumbled across what may be a treasure. It is a 96 Ninja with a racing history- 1 owner bike, he bought it new in 96 and took the plastics off the bike and put on glass. He raced it for 3 seasons, and then it's been in his garage the whole time. The odometer reads 1600km but he says it's been disconnected for awhile while he was racing. The bike has never been insured on the street. The bike has new pistons and rings... this seems a bit strange for a bike that must not have that many kms on it. He said it's been down a few times but no major bashes. It has been properly winterized for 5 years, and recently he "unwinterized it" apparently just blew out the carbs, put in fresh gas, and a new battery, and it started no problem and ran well.
What do I need to look for to ensure on a safe purchase? I am planning on having a shop look it over for me if all looks good after my initial look see.
What are the telltale signs of problems? Mods include a Muzzy pipe, revalved front fork, jetted carbs, advanced timing, but that's about it. He took off the Ohlins rear shock and steering damper and is selling them seperately.
Thanks for reading my babble.
