    New bikes, warranty and service?

Just a quick question for all those who have purchased new bikes.

Are bike service schedules similar to cars as it relates to warranty. For example a certified facility is supposed to do your oil changes for a car to maintain your warranty status. Is this similar to bikes or can you do all the service yourself and not worry about losing your warranty?

So if I purchase a new bike, can I do all the service myself right away or do I need to go back to the dealer?

I bought my bike new last year and after talking with Tom, the head mechanic at Rivercity Cycle, he suggested bring it in for the first service to record any gripes or problems with the bike. This is done so there is a histroy of a problem and it could get warranty coverage even if the bike is off warranty. I personally do all my on servicing and repairs but this did make sense. Keep note of anything that seems not right and bring it in with the bike for the service. We're talking an extra 25$ which later could save more.
